My Week So Far: 7th – 13th March

To make sure I blog more often, I’m going to be posting a blog every Sunday sharing all about my week. I have no idea if it will take off or be of any interest to anyone but here we goooo…

So my week hasn’t been that exciting. I have 3 deadlines next week so I’ve been in essay hell and I also got a cold so I’ve spent most of it in bed! However, there are some things I want to talk about!

Tuesday the 8th March was International Women’s Day, a fantastic day for celebrating all women, but a few things happened that day which kind of ruined it for me. Basically, Kim Kardashian took a naked selfie but covered up parts of her body – by the way, the exact same parts a bikini would – and the Internet imploded. Piers Morgan told her to put her clothes on, Chloe Grace Moretz called her out for being a bad role model and Pink complained about women using their bodies to get places in life. I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the Kardashians at all but you’ve got to admit their social media marketing and how they’ve built a brand around their existence is pretty impressive. On top of that, I think it’s really great that Kim loves her body and is comfortable with it! But what annoyed me the most was how negative everyone was, ironically on a day about celebrating women!

Another thing that happened this week was SeaWorld’s announcement that Tilikum, the killer whale responsible for killing senior trainer Dawn Brancheau along with Keltie Byrne and Daniel P. Dukes, is not in good health. This announcement is really sad and it definitely not good news. If SeaWorld thought that Tilikum was going to recover the chances are they would not announce his illness, due to all of the negative backlash already directed at SeaWorld. Tilikum is the face of the Blackfish movement and perhaps the only good thing about his illness is the fact that the anti-SeaWorld movement will be back in full force as it has settled down a bit recently. If you haven’t watched Blackfish yet, then you definitely should, it’s an eye opener.

Despite being ill, my week ended up being really good! I spent Monday watching Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and The Lizzie McGuire Movie while drinking wine with my housemate, Laura. The films were so cringe and so much worse than I remember but hold so many memories for me, it was awesome to revisit them! If you loved Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging when you were around 13 like I did, you should totally watch it again now because it is just hilarious. This week I also watched Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy again because Chris Pratt is just incredible, and RocknRolla, purely because Tom Hardy is in it and I’ve been a little obsessed with him since I watched Legend. But who can blame me, really?

Also, this week, as it’s Easter soon, my boyfriend Jon and I decided to make some Easter decorations. I’m pretty terrible at arty things so I was really pleased with how my eggs turned out! I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do with the eggs now, but they look cute so I’m sure I’ll find somewhere nice to keep them. My eggs are on the right and Jon’s are on the left.

Once all my essays are due, I’ll be off university for Easter and it’ll also be my 21st birthday! As it’s my 21st and there’re so many people I want to celebrate with, my birthday celebrations will be spread out over the whole week. I’ve got my second tattoo booked (here’s my first), which is my present from my parents and I’m getting something similar to the owl and dreamcatcher to the right. I’m also going bowling, to playzone, to a farm, to Harvester and to Chiquito’s.  It’s set to be a pretty good birthday and I’ll be doing a post about that after the celebrations are over!
