I love Disney films but the one that makes me cry every time I watch it and have yet to get bored of is Lilo and Stitch.
The film features a lot of Elvis Presley references and my Nan absolutely loved Elvis so it always reminds me of her which is really nice. This was another reason why I decided to get a Stitch tattooed on me with the word Ohana which means family.
A lot of people quote Frozen as the first film about sisters but Lilo and Stitch came out in 2002 and focuses on Lilo’s older sister Nani struggling to be Lilo’s guardian after their parents pass away in a car accident. Nani is also one of the few Disney girls who isn’t teeny and slender, she actually looks like an average sized woman.
The film heavily focuses on the importance of family, something both Lilo and Stitch come to realise in the end through each other. If you haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend it as it is both funny and sad all the while dealing with mature themes that are presented in a way that really hits home the message about the importance of family.
