Find out what I’ve been up to this Halloween!

Pumpkin Picking

Before last year, I’d always chosen my pumpkins from the supermarket. I tried actual pumpkin picking at Sopley Farm in Christchurch for the first time last year and loved it! It’s muddy but there’s something about being let loose in a field with a sledge to find your perfect pumpkin and the knowledge that you’re directly supporting local farms that just makes it so much more fun.

Pumpkin Carving

I love carving pumpkins even though I lack any sort of artistic ability and it’s really messy, slimy and kind of smelly. Below are the attempts of my boyfriend and me from this year! Mine are on the top row and his are on the bottom.

Ghost Walk

I’m completely on the fence about the existence of ghosts and spiritual beings and I’ve always wanted to do a ghost walk, especially around Halloween when the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead is said to become blurred. The ghost walk took place at Manor Farm in Bursledon, an old farm dating back to the 1600s. I’m still not off the fence on whether I believe or not but there were some creepy things going on, I just don’t know how much was faked.

The first place we explored was the cottage and the farmhouse, where strangely I was cold from the knees down but boiling hot everywhere else. Other people claimed to see shadows and shapes in the darkness but I didn’t see anything myself.

The church was the second place we visited and it was situated down a long dark path well away from everything else. It was pretty spooky from the start. In the church, we conducted a human pendulum which is where everyone stands in a circle holding hands, with a person in the middle. If there are any spirits in the area they are called upon to move the person in the middle as a way to respond to our questions. Halfway through the experience, the atmosphere completely changed as the spirit we were communicating with changed. The person in the middle had their eyes closed but somehow stopped directly in front of each person and seemed to just stare. Someone asked if the spirit was there to hurt us which it wouldn’t answer, someone then asked if it wanted us to leave to which is replied with a strong yes. Everyone in the group freaked out and started to run out. One of the team members stepped in to remove the person in the middle from the situation and afterwards he was really withdrawn and quiet and he explained that he couldn’t speak throughout the human pendulum and that he could still feel the presence of the spirit within him. The rational part of my brain assumes that he was an actor faking it but there was a significant shift in the mood and I didn’t feel safe.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get any photos as most of the night was spent holding hands with strangers or in complete darkness!

Halloween Food

I don’t need much excuse to eat cake or do silly things with my food but as Halloween is all about sweets and treats I don’t need an excuse! Here are my pumpkin cake and severed ‘hot dog’ fingers! There will be cake photos added to this post tomorrow!
