2017 saw the opening of a multimillion-pound extension to WestQuay in Southampton (now known as simply Westquay). The extension features numerous new restaurants, another cinema, and a bowling alley!
I invite you to join me on my mission to eat my way around the extension, virtually or in reality if you live in Southampton as well! I give you, the Watermark Restaurant Challenge!
Okay, so I know it’s not called the Watermark anymore but as I’m not really sure what it’s called now, I’m going to continue calling it the Watermark anywhere. It sounds a hell of a lot better than ‘that new bit by Westquay’ which is what I’ve been referring to it as when I talk about it out loud.
I’ve already tried The Diner, a review of which will follow this introductory portion. I’ve also breakfasted at Bill’s, my review of this will be up in two weeks! (if you want to be the first to know when the post goes up, pop your email in the subscribe box above!
I’ve been to The Diner at lunchtime and in the evening and the atmosphere is largely the same but with a more of a nightlife feel once the sun goes down!
The Diner is exactly how I’d imagine a classic American Diner from the 80s, with the booths and 80s music blaring with a modern day twist of the moody lighting and technology.
On my first visit, I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger and a side of chips. As soon as the meal came out, I realised this was a mistake because the burger was absolutely huge!
The second time I went, I ordered another Bacon Cheeseburger but instead went with a side of onion rings rather than chips. I forgot to save the picture of my burger from Snapchat (sob) but I did take a photo of the delicious drink I ordered! It’s called Super Berry Iced Tea and tasted like the red part of a Fab ice lolly.
I absolutely love The Diner, the food is incredible and the atmosphere is very warm and friendly, much like most American diners! If I’d had been able to order a Cloudy Lemonade, I’d have thought I was back in the US.
It’s not just burgers and more burgers at The Diner, the menu is full of other classic American dishes, like waffles and chicken wings…in one dish! There’s also a decent amount of vegetarian meals, for all you veggies out there! If you’re looking for somewhere to eat this weekend, then definitely give The Diner a try! You won’t be disappointed!
