It’s not a holiday if I don’t attempt to bake something!
Before, I’ve relied on the premixed baking sachets but this time I decided to bake from scratch. Chocolate orange is my favourite cake flavour so I decided to give it a go and bake some chocolate orange cupcakes.
The recipe I used is this one from BBC Good Food, although I only made 6 cupcakes so I halved the ingredient quantities. I’ve never been any good at following a recipe and it’s ingredients list exactly so I missed off a few things like the melted chocolate because I just forgot. The cakes tasted great regardless so I guess it didn’t matter too much!
One Sunday a little while ago, I was on a mission to find a glittery pumpkin. I never found one (sob) but I did find a Halloween cupcake decorating kit in HomeSense that I just had to have.
It took me a few goes to get the icing right and it’s not exactly perfect but I’m still pretty happy with how they came out. I was going to decorate the cakes a bit more but Tesco had a really disappointing selection of Halloween baking decorations! However, I really like the red on its own. It doesn’t look like there’s too much going on and it doesn’t get much more Halloweenie than blood!
Making chocolate orange cupcakes was something I’d never tried before, not even with my mum who is an amazing baker, so I was a bit apprehensive as to how it would turn out. I can confirm however that they taste incredible and I will definitely be doing them again!
